When Bobbie Burgers wakes up or falls asleep, various dream-like images often float across her mind’s eye. This is what makes up most of her work; a collage of day dreams, death, rebirth, nature, beauty, age, perfumes and sounds. All her senses intertwined. She has recently been intrigued by how most of her creative work takes place in this dreamlike, subconscious state. Lucid dreaming and dream incubation are a fascinating combination of creative control and controlling one’s own creativity on how we view the world, what we wish to experience and the endless unknown of the human brain....

Ever since she could hold a pen, Flavia Chan has been drawing rainbows, hearts and cats with spikes. Her kindergarten teacher suggested she attend Emily Carr University of Art & Design for Fine Arts. Her childhood included a large amount of time vegetating with many picture books (which her mom stored in a fridge) and her beloved television set. The TV and pictures from the pages of children’s books fueled her imagination and continue to inspire her today. Flavia’s style can be described as “cute with a smidge of sadness.”...

And With A Glimmer, It Falls Apart is a painted, abstract re-mapping of the human brain that communicates the biological processes of neural deterioration and the concept of memory. The agglutinations of thick paint trapped underneath the epoxy resin are incredibly volatile and will crack over time. This subtle transformation is meant to mimic the brain’s eventual loss of plasticity, the formation of neural plaque and the development of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, as a gesture of both sympathy and solidarity. This Brain Project sculpture is dedicated in loving memory to Jordan Clayton’s grandmother, Shirley Sellon, the shining light behind this design. jordanclayton.org...
