Basak Cansu Guvenkaya is a contemporary sculptor, painter and mixed media artist. She completed her formal studies in sculpture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istanbul) in 2016 and received first place in the Sakip Sabancı Foundation Art Awards. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, art fairs, symposiums and competitions around the world in countries such as Australia, Germany, the UK, Italy and Turkey. Currently Basak is working on her Master’s degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She is also doing research about indigenous people around the world and the protecting and healing functions of their sculptures. Basak’s sculptures and paintings suggest a playful and colourful way to get rid of negativity and gain happiness. Her artworks encapsulate an expression and a protection against evils of the world, creating a space where evil and fear do not exist; an imaginary world of its own....

Dana Korre is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist who completed her BFA at OCAD University in 2015. Dana’s work primarily focuses on imitating patterns and textures derived from nature while questioning their relationship with the industrial world. Her sculptural pieces serve as visual, three-dimensional studies of various organic materials and her paintings concentrate on detailed observations of elements found within the natural environment....

This multi-faceted work was crafted in the Donald and Elaine Rafelman Creative Arts Studio at Baycrest by residents, patients, family members, staff and volunteers. Each clay tile is unique and was made by hand, hardened in the kiln, painted and glazed. The vibrant colours and shapes reflect different themes of life from social and cultural identity to the beauty of nature. This brain may be one, unique piece of art, but it is more than meets the eye. It is a collaborative work made by many brains whose pieces shape a mosaic that reflects the diversity of the Baycrest community....

Elizabeth (Libs) Elliott is a textile artist exploring the intersection of technology and traditional craft by using generative code to design and make handmade quilts. A deep appreciation for craftsmanship, design history and future-focused applications are all reflected in her work. She studied Material Art & Design at OCAD University and lives and works in Toronto. Her commissions include work for individuals and corporate clients such as Absolut Vodka. She has exhibited her work internationally and has been covered by the media in publications such as Gizmodo.com, Design Milk and Casa Vogue....

As the lead singer of Muse, Matthew Bellamy is known for his musical accomplishments as both a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, but he turned his talents to the visual arts for the sake of The Brain Project. Baycrest Health Sciences is grateful to Matthew Bellamy for his willingness to create and contribute a brain sculpture to the project, raising funds and awareness for brain health research, as well as care, education and innovation to improve aging for people everywhere....

Jerry Rugg aka birdO is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. While his surreal geometric animals can be found on canvas, in digital print, and installation, birdO is primarily known for his large-scale mural work on walls and buildings around the world. Jerry’s long passion for the arts, his storied experience working in film, and the skills acquired as an award winning graphic designer, have all contributed to his approach, which focuses on an acute awareness of the surface and studious preparation with regard to local culture and surroundings....

Eric Farache’s work is informed by his ongoing observations and sketching, which he has maintained for the past 20 years. His drawings have become the backbone to his artistic practice, a continuing regime of sketching drawn from the world around him, which also influences his painting and photography. After graduating from OCAD in 1994, he earned his MFA from the University of Leeds in 2000, and has continued to focus on photography while mounting exhibitions on a regular basis for the past 20 years....
