The Turing Pattern is named after Alan Turing who developed a mathematical system to illustrate “Morphogenesis,” which describes among other things how animals such as zebras develop stripes. It is an example of how a simple binary system allows complex patterns to develop “the same but different.” In this piece, Jacob Yerex has employed curved lines to make the Turing Pattern on one side of the brain and sharp corners on the other – the same on both sides but different. He sees this as a reference to how our brains develop very differently but are essentially the same. jacobyerex.com...
Russell Young utilizes materials that respond to the elements. His inspiration for making large-scale abstract works came while sitting under the pier near his studio at the renowned Rincon point break in California. He noticed how the interaction of natural elements on the wood and metal resulted in a patina and range of brown, green and orange hues. Creating this sculpture, entitled Moonlight Mile, involved physical movement as he painted thick enamel on the surface, and then drew into it using iron powder. After it dried, he dragged the sculpture into the Pacific Ocean and held it beneath the waves. The rains of El Nino, wind, sun and sea air have also changed the colour, texture and composition. russellyoung.com...

Laura Bundesen has had a love affair of 30+ years with fabric, thread and colour. Using these elements, she creates richly textured mixed media pieces, with a current focus on Neuro Art. Working with a functional map of the human brain as a reference, Bundesen recycles scraps of fabric into a collage and then embellishes it with hand embroidery, trim and beads, working directly on artist’s canvas. Improvising as the work progresses, she keeps the mystery of the brain’s inner workings in mind. Her contemporary 2-D Neuro Art pieces are then stretched and painted. Bundesen’s work has been purchased by neurosurgeons, neurologists and neuroscientists, as well as survivors of traumatic brain injury and brain cancer. Bundesen lives in Massachusetts and exhibits widely in the Northeastern United States....
