Love on the Brain

Using antique buttons (many from the artists’ grandmother’s and mother’s button boxes) to create the mosaic, this work evokes the sentimental memory that we attach to clothing and its association with special events in our lives.

About The Artist

HOAX COUTURE

Hoax Couture was founded in 1985 by lawyer Chris Tyrell and architect Jim Searle. Within a year, their first fashion collection was available exclusively through Holt Renfrew; and shortly afterward in more than 40 stores internationally. They now run a bespoke tailoring, fashion and costume design business in Toronto.

They have collaborated with the National Ballet and Citadel and Company has commissioned them for numerous dance projects. In 2008, they designed costumes for The Ruins Proclaim that Building was Beautiful for the San Francisco Ballet’s 75th anniversary.

Tyrell and Searle have also designed costumes for Canada’s World Champion synchronized skating team, Nexxice.
