The "Channels Program" is a group of 45 individuals from Reena, an agency that supports people with developmental disabilities. Their design reflects a strong belief that they are more than their disabilities. To visually depict this, they take your eye on a journey:
"We start with a wheelchair on the bottom corner of our brain, because this is a reality for us. All 45 of us need devices, or accommodations, in our lives. When
people look at us, this is usually what they see. We want people to see more than our disabilities. Around the chair, we've planted seeds to show that our chairs are just the beginning of us. This is where we start, but we become so much more. The seeds float across the brain, slowly sprouting into buds, and ultimately into lush, rich and dense greenery. Spirals of brilliant ivy woven with bright tropical leaves show who we really are. We are full of growth, full of vibrancy, and full of life."
We are the Channels Program – a day program made up of 45 individuals from Reena, an agency that supports people with developmental disabilities.
We are independent. We are innovative. We are skilful. We have jobs. We are artists. And, we have disabilities.
Our brains and our bodies may not work like yours do, and we love that about ourselves. We want our community to include us and to learn more about our experience. At Channels, our mission is to show that we are so much more than our disabilities.
